Hey lovebirds! Ready for your engagement session? YES?! Cool, here are a few extra tips for you! NO?! No worries—I’m here to make sure this experience is stress-free, fun, and full of those moments you’ll treasure forever. Grab a coffee (or wine—we don’t judge) and check out these tips to make sure we have an epic time together!
Let’s be honest: You’re in love, you’re getting married, and life is amazing! So, try not to stress. The more relaxed and fun you are, the better the photos will be. You’re here to celebrate, not to model for Vogue (unless you’re into that vibe, in which case, go ahead). Just be yourselves, and I’ll capture all the magic! I’m all about giving fun prompts while also getting those in-between moments (…which are usually my faves!)
Listen, we know you might want to rock matching “I’m with her” T-shirts, but how about we get a little fancier than that? Coordinating outfits means picking clothes that complement each other, not copycat each other! Think about colors that make you feel like your best self. Neutral tones, soft pastels, or something bold and striking—whatever makes you feel amazing! Pro Tip: Bring a second outfit so we can mix it up and get both cozy AND glam shots. I also have a selection of gorgeous dresses in my client closet that you can view and borrow from HERE.
A cute pair of heels or shoes that look good might seem tempting, but let’s remember: we’re going to be walking, possibly climbing hills, and running to catch the best sunset. Comfort is key! If you’re planning to wear heels, consider bringing some cute flats to change into when we do the walking part. Trust me, your feet will thank you!
I’ll guide you through poses, but the secret sauce is candid moments! So, forget about stiff poses and forced smiles. Laugh together, whisper something sweet to each other, or even do a mini dance-off! (Bonus points if it’s a song that makes you both lose control and bust a move.) Authenticity is the best filter, so embrace those real moments.
Let’s talk timing. There’s something magical about that soft, dreamy light during golden hour—that time just before sunset or after sunrise when the light is perfect and your skin looks flawless (seriously, it’s like a filter!). If you’re up for a little early morning adventure or want to end your day with a sunset moment, this is when we’re going to get the absolute best shots.
This is a great time to plan your makeup trial (if our schedules all align) and see how your makeup will photograph on your wedding day. If it doesn’t work out, no stress! If you’re confident doing your own – awesome & if not I have a list of makeup artists that are amazing! As for your hair – let it flow! Your hair often adds a dimension of movement to photos which looks amazing. Make sure to bring a brush and some hair spray for any unruly fly aways, too!
OK, so I know we’re getting that beautiful shot of you staring lovingly into each other’s eyes, but if you’re holding your breath in anticipation, the photos will show it. So, breathe! Relax your shoulders and let the moment happen naturally. This isn’t a high-stakes mission—it’s a celebration!
Remember, we’re not just here for the Instagram-worthy shots (although those are great). We’re here to capture the love between you two. So, don’t be afraid to snuggle up, hold hands, kiss, or even get a little silly with some goofy faces. Those real moments will make your photos feel like the true representation of who you are together.
Props can be a fun way to add personality to your session! Bring some of your favorite things like a drink you love, a blanket for a cozy vibe, or even a bottle of champagne for a celebratory pop (pun intended!). But keep it simple—you’re the stars, and the props just add a little fun to the mix.
Choose a location or two (making sure they are close together) that you love as a couple! It could be a coffee shop that you love, hiking spot with epic views, or place in the city that is meaningful. Wherever the location is, I like to make sure it fits your love story. If you are stuck for spot…no worries – I have a few gems that I love to share with my couples.
Whether we’re out in the sun or on a hike to a perfect spot, bring a water bottle to stay refreshed. Also, a quick snack (hello, granola bars) can work wonders if we’re out for an extended session. If you’re anything like me, once you get a bit hangry…game over…..so let’s prevent that from happening!
This is YOUR time to shine, laugh, kiss, and celebrate all that’s ahead. Engagement sessions are one of the most fun ways to commemorate your love, and we’re going to make the most of it. Keep your eyes on each other, enjoy every minute, and remember—this is just the beginning of your epic love story.
I can’t wait to capture the magic. Let’s do this! ✨
